What's Goin' On??
As we celebrate the beginning of May, already full of spring showers and lovely flowers, there’s plenty to get excited about this weekend!! First, there’s a good chance that we’ll have a brief reprieve from the rain tomorrow morning and early afternoon, giving us a chance to get out and enjoy all our local favorites! The long-awaited Board of Trustees Elections will be held tomorrow from 7am-7pm. Lampasas ISD constituents can vote in two locations, at the election office on 407 E. Pecan Street in Lampasas or the Kempner Fire Dept. Training Center on 315 S. Pecan Street in Kempner. Lometa ISD elections will be held at Lometa City Hall on 100 E. San Saba St in Lometa.
The Farmers’ and Craft Market will be back out on the Square in the morning from 9am-2pm after taking a break for the City-Wide Garage Sale last weekend. But if you’ll be on the road, just north of us the City of Gatesville is having their annual garage sale and market, “Junk & Disorderly,” starting at 9am in the Gatesville Civic Center. You can also support young entrepreneurs at a “Lemonade Day” kids’ market event in Copperas Cove at the Chick-Fil-A from 10am-1pm.
Speaking of Spring flowers, the Browning Community Garden Club is having a flower show at 1st Street Church of Christ from 2-4pm. And if you’re looking for a kid friendly-event for your spring chickens, head east on 190 to the CTC campus, where they are hosting a day of fun youth activities like slime science, fossil hunting, fashion design and more, as well as a car show and vendors. The event is intended to preview their summer STEAM enrichment program.
Tomorrow night, May the 4th Be With You at Campfire Bar and Grill where they’re hosting a whole day of Star Wars themed events, including a costume contest, themed food and drink specials. Then catch them on Sunday, May 5th, for their first ever vendor market event from 11am-5pm and every 1st Sunday following.
And if you’re looking for something closer to home to do Sunday after church, head to El Frías Brewery and Mexican Cuisine for great food and even better music with a Cinco de Mayo performance by Billy Scott (eyes up, Radiogram ads work!!)
Next week, the Golden Chick here in Lampasas is holding a “Spirit Night” for Hanna Springs Elementary on Tuesday, May 7th from 4-8pm. 20% of the sales will benefit the campus if you mention the school’s name at checkout. On Thursday the 9th, Girl Scout Troop 6010 invites girls K-2nd grade and their parents to a meet and greet at the 1st Street Church of Christ from 5-6:30pm, and later that night Providence Christian Academy will debut their original play, “The Fire Within” at 6:30pm in the Lampasas Methodist Church Wesley Fellowship Hall. - MG

Rainfall Totals Reach 1.7” in Last 24 Hours
Prayers have been answered for many of us here in Lampasas County with the recent spring downpours. A look at the LCRA gauge data for the Lampasas River at 3 separate stations shows a 24-hour total of 1.7” at those stations alone after last night’s storms.
And those totals are minimal compared to other parts of the state. According to an article from KVUE titled “Rainfall Roundup,” the heaviest rain has fallen primarily “in Blanco, Mason and Milam counties… Blanco County experienced a Flash Flood Warning Wednesday evening and saw official rain gauge totals of more than 4 inches!” Though the lake levels fed by those counties have risen only slightly, every increment counts as we head into the summer. - MG
