The Texas Water Development Board posted the most recent map for conditions as of August 25th. After the deep summer’s high temperatures taking a toll on the Texas landscape, the drought map shows the largest one-week drought expansion since June 2008, according to TWDB. For the first time in three months, more than half the state is impacted by drought. As predicted in last week’s Water News, Lampasas now has Moderate Drought impacting the lower portion of the county.
Conditions are 57% now and were 36% a week ago. Since late July, the drought area in the state has expended 34% and  conditions have degraded at least one category across most of the state. Around 1/3rd of the state is abnormally dry and may slip into drought.
