Lubbock-The first round of the Girls Regional Golf tournament finished up Monday afternoon and the Lady Badgers are trying to earn their way to the state meet. There are 96 girls competing and Kena Cox shot an 82 tying for 19th place.

Junior Lady Badger Morgan Rogers (left) shot a 78 and is currently in a 4 way tie for 6th place.

Morgan was the Individual Tournament District Champion, shooting a 73/78 in the two day

The Badger Sports schedule for today shows the Lady Golf team in Lubbock for the regional tournament as Morgan Rogers, who won the District Individual Championship, along with Kena Cox and Abbie Carson (pictured) can earn a trip to state.

Badger’s Blake Graham and Talon Wright will be competing in the boys tournament.

Tomorrow both the Baseball and Softball teams travel to Liberty Hill with the JV girls playing at 5 and the Lady Badgers at 7. The JV boys play at 4:30 and the Varsity’s first pitch is at 7pm

The Tennis Individual District Meet is over and the Badgers did well. In the Boys competition Lance Cofield and Marcus Morua finished 2nd in doubles. In the girls competition the Lady Badgers aced them all as Michaela Ellison won the singles as Sami McKenzie and Tara Peragande won the doubles competition. Rhiannon Wright finished 3rd in singles and Alexi Kaufert and Carolyn Loborde finished 3rd in doubles.

1st and 2nd places will advance to Lubbock next Wednesday for the regionals.

Word in from Copperas Cove, RG III is not the only former Cove Dawg who keeps his home ties. Former Dawg and current Chicago Bears All Pro cornerback, Charles Tillman, has donated a $3,000 equipment grant to the Bulldawg football program through USA Football. He was named a team captain of the association's All Fundamentals Team, and was given the opportunity for a $3,000 grant. He sent it back home to the CCHS program. Word is…the town plans to name a street after Tillman, similar to the RG III honor.

In other good news for Cove fans, the baseball teams 15 game losing streak was broken at Hallford Field in Temple when Cove ran by the Wildcats 13-8.  The Dawgs then came back Friday for a game with Harker Heights and topped them 5-2. They’ll test their

The Lady Badger Softball team lost 6-3 last night in Burnet.

The Lometa Hornets were in San Saba yesterday for a track meet as Mikhaila Barnett won the High Jump, breaking her own Lometa High School record with a leap of 5’2”.

Justin Alaniz won the Silver Medal in the boys’ high jump with a leap of 5’8”.
