Comptroller Susan Combs has announced the state’s annual ENERGY STAR® Sales Tax Holiday for this

 

American Legion Post 277 invites the public to join them in placing flags on the graves of veterans at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday , May 25.  

The group will meet at the shelter in the cemetery at 8am Saturday morning. Participants are asked to bring a screwdriver to make a hole in the ground where the flag is to be placed.  For more information please contact Bob Wright at 556-5559.

 

The Texas Senate Tuesday approved a proposed ban on sales of sugary sodas in public elementary and junior high schools and sent the measure to the governor.

In a 24-6 vote on Tuesday, the Senate approved a bill intended to help the state's youngest students develop nutritious drinking habits by allowing schools to sell only water, low-fat milk and pure juice.

blotter shows the arrest of a 29 year old Kempner man for DWI, and they responded to several calls including arson, robbery, a terroristic threat and 3 disturbances.

Douglas Hall, 57 of Lampasas, was arrested and charged in October for indecency with a child in a case involving a pre-teenager. Acting on a complaint, a search warrant had seized electronic equipment and sent it off to a crime lab.

On Saturday police were back and arrested Hall again, this time they charged him

 

The 63rd Annual A.C. January Memorial Invitational Golf Tournament will kick off at Hancock Park Golf Course on Saturday for its three day run - winding up on Monday.

The format will be 54 holes of stroke play. Golfers will be pre-flighted according to their last three year average, two year average, or last year’s score depending on the number of years played.

Tee times will be 8am and 1pm each day. There will be golfers in town as early as Thursday or Friday for their free practice rounds. There’ll also be a meal for two and a gathering on Sunday evening at the park.

Prizes for each flight will be: 1st - $500, 2nd - $400, 3rd - $300 and Lame Duck $200. Door prizes will be given during the “business meeting” that follows the meal on Sunday evening.

There are currently 201 entries, as of late Tuesday evening. The entries are from all over Texas including Texarkana, Edinburg, Houston an El Paso. They are also coming from other states as well, such as California, Tennessee and Louisiana .

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a Sheep and Goat Workshop in Lometa, kicking off at 4pm on Thursday, May 30th. The workshop will be held at the Lometa Garden Club Building at 514 N Main in Lometa.

“The main focus of the workshop will be to teach sheep and goat producers to reduce their dependence on traditional de-worming practices,” according to Heath Lusty, AgriLife Extension agent.

 

Lusty said although much of the region remains under severe drought, very little rain is needed to trigger sheep and goat internal parasite infestations and the recent rains may have activated this trigger.
