County Judge Wayne Boultinghouse pointed out the need to update the county’s 1991 auto salvage ordinance, saying that many auto repair, paint and body and other shops have evolved into auto salvage or junk yards with abandoned cars and other junk scattered around the businesses.
Lampasas City Manager Michael Stoldt told the court the city’s proposed rabies testing and euthanasia fees were raised to avoid competing with veterinarians while surrender and adoption fees were lowered to encourage pet owners take unwanted pets to the pound and to make pet adoption more affordable.
Pct. 1 Commissioner Robert L. Vincent Jr. told his colleagues that performance bonds to hold developers accountable to subdivision rules expire after one year. “We have to put some ‘bite’ back in our regulations,” he said.
The court authorized the county judge to send a letter to DeWalt Construction Co., of Copperas Cove, developers of Chica Ranch, located near Cove, warning the firm to complete road repairs in 60 days or risk prosecution. Vincent said DeWalt has done no repair work since the July 2007 floods.
Commissioners also awarded the asphalt and emulsion contract to Ergon Asphalt and Emulsion, Inc., of Austin, who submitted the low bid of $2.31 per gallon.
