Good Area Rain – Few problems
Typically, 1-2 inches rain fell Tuesday on Central Texas, and it was of the best kind in most places—not too severe and stormy, but fast enough to create a little runoff. It will certainly put a little water in some of the stock tanks and it will help lots of the cool weather vegetation and get some spring seeds wet.
In some areas away from Lampasas County there were instances of storm damage. One of them was
on a popular road between Copperas Cove and Fort Hood.
Tank Destroyer Boulevard, from Clarke Road on Fort Hood to Main Street in Copperas Cove is closed because of heavy rain that damaged the structural integrity of The Turkey Creek Low Water Crossing.
According to a release from Fort Hood the road will be closed for 5-6 months. The gate on that route, west of Clarke Road, will also be closed until the road re-opens.
They go on to say that they had already planned to close the road in February because the crossing was deteriorating, with some erosion and undermining of a culvert, but this has made it no longer safe for travel
Tank Destroyer Boulevard was one of the more heavily used roads on the post, getting 5 to 10 thousand vehicles per day on its survace. Some of the traffic will now have to use either Hwy 190 or FM 116 at Elijah Rd.
