Day two of the 2019 Lampasas County Youth Livestock Show started off early at 8:00 AM with the Ag Mechanics Show and 14 entrants. The judging went on even as the Swine competition was getting underway in the arena an hour later. Winners were announced at noon. Styler Oldham, (below with Dr. Forsythe) from Lampasas FFA took the Grand Champion award with his cleverly designed BBQ grill/smoker. Corbin Cline from the Livestock Equipment class and Lometa FFA took the Reserve Champion award.
The arena stands were full as the Swine competition got underway with over 60 entrants. Judge Brock Herren provided a wealth of information about judging criteria while keeping pace with the fast-moving event. By early afternoon winners were announced. Grand Champions were: Holly Hines from Lometa FFA in the Breeding Gilt Class, and Paige Rutland from Lampasas County 4H in the All Other Class. Reserve Champions were: Paige Rutland again, this time from the Registered Breeding Gilt Class, and Avery Hopson in the Hampshire Class from Lampasas 4H. The Swine Showmanship awards went to Ridge Hill of Lampasas 4H for Junior, Jemma Carroll for of Lampasas 4H for Intermediate, and Holly Hines of Lometa FFA for Senior.
By the time the Market Lamb Show began the show barn was packed. Judge Chad Coburn provided individualized instruction to young exhibitors and explanations to the crowd as the quick pace of the show went on. Winning banners went to: Preston Isom for Grand Champion from the Medium Wool Class and Lampasas 4H, and to LeeAnn Parker for Reserve Champion from Medium Wool and also from Lampasas 4H. The Junior Showmanship Award went to Cayhil Isom, the Intermediate Award went to Preston Isom, and the Senior Showmanship Award went to LeeAnn Parker.
The Goat Show followed right on the heels of the Lamb Show. Grand Champion in the Heavy Breeding class went to Selie Hodges from Lometa, and Reserve Champion was Ruger Miserlain from Kempner. In the Market Goats, Grand Champion went to Cahill Isom from Lampasas, with the Reserve Champion to Preston Isom from Lampasas. Showmanship Awards for Breeding Goats went to Sara Lusty for Junior, Derek Dahlke Jr. for Intermediate, and Daisey Dahlke for Senior. Showmanship for Market Goats went to Allison Fry for Junior, Preston Isom for Intermediate, and Daelyn Ellis for Senior.
