The Badgers poured it on last night, scoring 7 points in the first quarter, 20 in the second, and adding on another 15 in the last half. The defense was stingy too, only allowing the Vikings to go across the goal line once, in the very last quarter of the game.
The first TD came with a 20 yard pass from sophomore QB Ace Whitehead to his favorite slotback receiver, junior Cameron Everts. Whitehead’s kick was good for the 1. In the 2nd quarter it was Everts again, this time with an 8 yard run and Whitehead’s kick, a few game minutes later the 20 yard pass to Everts again and the kick was good again. Just before the half Whitehead went to Everts again, this time it was the long one for 48 yards, but this time the kick wasn’t good, making it 27-zip at the half.
The second half saw sophomore running back Jack Jerome go 35 yards for a TD and Whitehead’s kick was good. The Badger defense picked up points as Landon Irving got a safety in the 4th period for another 2 points and the Badger offense went back to work with Whitehead throwing a pass to junior wide receiver Jaylon Porter who went in on the 15 yarder. Whitehead’s extra point kick failed to end the Badger scoring at 42 points with 3:41 left in the game.
Lago Vista was able to push one in on a goal line 1 yarder with just then seconds left on the clock.
Lampasas total offense was 373 yards. Lago Vista had 286, but they were largely unsuccessful yardage. Lampasas was able to convert into 15 first downs, Lago only 3.
QB Ace Whitehead was 13 of 20 passing for 189 yards, while Lago Vista only complete 1 of 6 passing attempts. In rushing it was Jack Jerome doing the heavy lifting, rushing 13 times for 128 yards. The only rushing TD though, came from Cameron Everts 8 yarder. QB Whitehead tucked the ball 5 times for 23 yards in the game.
The unwritten story, as always, is the defensive effort. The Badger defense held Lago Vista to 1 pass completion and intercepted one of their passes, along with 3 more turnovers on fumbles. The Badgers kept Lago team on their heels all night with only the one last minute score.
Lampasas Radio’s broadcast team, Darrell Brooks and Kenny Murray gave the Defensive Player of the game to Kody Allen and the Offensive Player honors had to go to top scorer Cameron Everts with his 4 TDs.
Next Week the Badgers head to Lorena.
