Tiger Woods showed the PGA this past week, at his age, that he was still a force to be dealt with. The same was proven to be true at the 7th annual Hancock Golf Club Championship.
Terry Eckermann, at 64 years old, became the oldest club champion in the tournament's history. Eckermann, from Lampasas, shot an impressive 74 from the blue tees in miserable weather conditions on a wet and muddy course. The same was to be said for George Akers, who at 67 and from Lampasas, shot an amazing 76, winning the High Handicap Championship.
Candice Templett, whom we wouldn't dare ask her age but will say she was not the youngest female on the course, shot an 88 to win the Women's Championship. Candice lives in Lampasas when she is not in Houston.
Scott Haverly, the tournament chairman, said, "I want to congratulate our 2018 Tournament Champions and thanks to all the golfers that competed. Haverly said there were 67 golfers in the tournament. Mike Holland reporting.
