Badgers lose by 1 point in overtime, but what a game!
Last Friday night at La Vernia, the Lampasas Badgers went to meet the so far undefeated La Vernia Bears. The Bears had run over their opponents in their first three games. They were senior-laden and had a very good balanced offense. They had racked up lots of yards in both passing and rushing against their opponents. The Lampasas Badgers had also been a dominating offensive force in two of their three games played, but not so good in the previous week when they lost to Lorena.
Still, you knew what Lampasas was capable of, and they wanted and needed the win, so fans were hopeful that the Badgers would rise up and surprise La Vernia.
So, here come the Badgers and gave it all they had, surprising Bear fans with a 24-0 edge in the first quarter. The Bears came back and by the third quarter it was back and forth with an extremely close game that went into overtime. Lampasas had racked up 577 yards total offense, La Vernia 564. Alas, in overtime, the one point difference went to La Vernia 51-50.
But, boy did they know the Badgers had come to town. It must have been a bit of a shock to their fans, but Lampasas fans that we talked to said they thought Lampasas had a chance from the beginning. Most said they thought that, in spite of Lampasas loss to Lorena the previous week, Lampasas was pretty evenly matched to La Vernia.
Either way, as one fan put it…everybody in the stands got their money’s worth.
