The Badgers came out with a balanced pass/rush attack in the first quarter that gobbled up 206 yards and 2 TDs. Ace Whitehead was 5 of 5 in his passes in that first quarter, going to Jr. slotback Cameron Everts 3 times for 82 yards total and sophomore wide receiver Michael Murray twice for 17 yards. Sophomore running back Jack Jerome ran for 100 yards and racked up both TDs. QB Ace Whitehead kicked both PATs. Meanwhile the Badger defense was able to shut down the Bears to just 49 total yards.

That lead of 14-0 went to the 2nd quarter where Jerome ran for 39 yards total and QB Whitehead ran for 53 yards and a TD himself, also kicking the PAT and a field goal.  However, the Bears came alive to score 14 points on passes and the half ended with Lampasas ahead 24-14.

In the third quarter Lampasas struck again with QB Whitehead going to Murray for 33 yards and three times to Everts. Whitehead ran in a 1 yarder then kicked the PAT for 7 more points. The score was evened up by La Vernia when they ground out one TD on the ground then went to the air for another. The 3rd quarter ended Lampasas ahead 31-28.

In the 4th quarter the Badgers came back with a 16 yard pass play, and a 15 yarder to Everts for TDs and one successful PAT. La Vernia passed and ran in 2 TDs and converted twice for 2 points each to end the game tied with Lampasas at 44 all.

In overtime La Vernia went first and rushed, then passed one in for a TD and an extra point to go ahead 51-44.

For the first time the Badgers found themselves behind in the game.  Whitehead went to Everts for 14 and a first down, Jerome for another yard, etc., then Whitehead ran in the one yarder for a TD. The attempt for a two pointer was blocked and the game ended with Lampasas short a point.

A shame! – but what a game!!

Lampasas won in almost all stats, but the scoreboard is what counts. Next week, the Badgers go up against Gatesville on Badger Field – it’s Homecoming!

Go Badgers!
