Badgers Lose 50 to 51

But, boy what a game!

When the game started, you knew La Vernia’s Bears had a statistical edge, but you hoped the Badgers would play up to their potential and pull off a victory. They came awfully close!

The high scoring game was tied at 44-44 at the end of regular time and went into overtime. There La Vernia scored a TD and converted to make it 51-44 their favor. Lampasas got the ball and scored a TD to make it 51-50. Here the extra point kick would have tied the game again and put it in a second overtime period but, as broadcaster Darrell Brooks put it, “We found out that (Badger Coach) Troy Rogers has the spirit of a gambler.” He chose to go for a two point attempt at the goal line, attempting a throw-back pass to Owen Davis which the Bear defense knocked away.

The way better than average ball game ended with the La Vernia Bears still undefeated, but with the Lampasas Badgers getting lots of respect for their way better than average game under the Friday night lights.

Lampasas had 577 total yards of offense in the game, while La Vernia had 564 yards.

Badger sophomore QB Ace Whitehead was our Offensive Player of the Game, completing 19 of 29 passes for 279 yards and 2 TDs, rushing 13 times for 82 yards and 3 TDs, and he received 1 pass for 29 yards.

Our Defensive Player of the Game was Giovanni Bienbenu
