Badger Varsity Football (2-1) will regroup this week as they lost big (35-14) to the Lorena Leopards on Friday in a road game that started 30 minutes late after a 30 minute lightning delay.
The up-to-Friday-night aerial assault of the Badgers had been defeating opponents efforts in the early season games, but in the Lorena game it was all turned around. Lorena bested the Badgers 21-14 in the first half, then came back in the second half with a stifling defense that picked off two of QB Ace Whitehead’s passes. The Badgers just couldn’t make the pass receptions they needed and it finished in the 35-14 loss.
The Badger coaches will likely be making corrections and adjustments to the Badger offense and game plans as they go on the road again on Friday, 9/21, at La Vernia.
This game could be an even tougher test for the Badgers. Lampasas is 2-1, while La Vernia is 3-0 and has punished opponents with their high scoring offense .
Both teams have outstanding QBs and receivers. La Vernia’s Bears have QB Clayton Chadwick (#18) who has averaged about 240 yards passing per game up to last Friday. In rushing they have junior Diego Mendoza who averaged 121 yards up to Friday. Both teams are big 2nd quarter scorers so we’d look for the action on Friday to come out early.
The game will have 7:30pm start in La Vernia.
Badger 9th and JV teams will host La Vernia on Thursday 9/20, with games at 5:30 and 7pm.
