The Lometa ISD School Board met Thursday evening in a special session that wrapped up the 2017-2018 budget year and readied for the 2018-2019 budget.
The District opened the school year with an enrollment of 290 students, a slight increase over last year.
After opening the meeting, the Board immediately went into a public hearing and Superintendent David Fisher presented the new budget and tax rate. The tax rate will remain the same as the previous year and the new budget total will be $4,049,417. The budget and tax rate were later approved by the board. The Board also approved a budget amendment of $36,444 on the FY2017-18 budget to cover payment of late-arriving bills for the year.
Other considerations and actions included:
●amending the list of employees approved for concealed handgun carry on Lometa ISD property, (the District now has 11 teachers and staff approved);
●accepting a bid of $2,200 per year from TASB for unemployment insurance;
●approving a grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture(TXDA) toward the purchase of a new school bus. The cost of the new bus is approximately $100,000, and the TXDA grant will pay for half of it.
The next meeting for Lometa ISD Board will be Tuesday, September 17th, at 6:30pm.
