Basketball    (District 27-4A)

The Lady Badgers Varsity (13-3), in their last outing at the Florence tournament, took out Florence 68-8 to go 2-1 in the tourney, beating 5A Austin Travis but losing their first game to a highly rated San Marcos private school. 

The 9th Grade teams and the JV team will head to Georgetown on Thursday for another tournament.

The Varsity Girls will be at home on Friday against the Leander Founders team with tipoff at 6pm.

Badger Boys Basketball (5-5) finished up in the Brady tournament in second place, losing in the championship game 35-60 to Trinity Christian Prep School.

Senior Kolbe Penick led the team with 11 points, followed by Brenton Webb and Raven Wade with 6 each and Qadir Tolliver and Ethan Rascoe with 5 each. Raven Wade and Mike Murray were strong in rebounds and both Nate Borchardt and Brenton Webb were strong in steals.

At tournament’s end, Qadir Tolliver and Kolbe Penick were nominated to the All Tournament team.

The JV team won their consolation championship with a 55-39 victory over Sweetwater JV. Leading in scoring was Jacob Hogeda with 11 and Ryan Linney added 9, along with Landon Mulcahy.

The Freshmen team (6-3) won their consolation championship game, beating Brady 52-13. Leading in points was Dax Brookerson with 14 and Jett Braman with 13.

On Tuesday, the Badger Boys will host Brady in Badger Gym with games at 5, 6:15, and 7:30pm.

On Thursday, Badger Basketball heads to Hamilton where all three teams will be in the Hamilton Tournament.

Lometa Basketball Tournament Results

Last week’s 8 team basketball tournament in Lometa saw host,  Lometa beat Lohn 64-34 and advance to the next game where they lost to Blanket 34-49 to get moved to a 3rd Place contest with Rochelle. There they won 63-20 to secure the 3rd place tourney title.

Meanwhile, Huckabay had advanced to the Championship contest with Blanket where they won 49-38 for the title.

Lometa’s Enirique Prado was named to the All Tournament Team.
