San Saba Football Wins Third Round of Playoffs

The state-ranked San Saba Armadillos won their Area Playoff game against Celeste, 62-56 in a high scoring overtime close one.

San Saba’s QB Sean O’keefe was 14 of 16 in passing for 147 yards and one TD but in rushing he carried the ball 19 times for 218 yards himself. The big rusher in the game was Eli Salinas, who carried 36 times for 305 yards. Salinas, like O’keefe, is only a junior this year.

The Celeste game was played in Mineral wells and was a Regional Semi-finals game.

Now, the Armadillos will advance to the Regional Championship against, surprisingly, the De Leon Bearcats. San Saba and De Leon come out of the same district and had played on Nov. 11, when San Saba beat De Leon by a resounding 62-12 score. De Leon was not to be dismissed though, going into the playoffs as a runner-up and winning every game since, only to come back up against their former nemesis, the Armadillos.

If history means anything, the San Saba Armadillos are heavy favorites here. If they get through their matchup with De Leon, they’ll move on to the Regional Quarter-finals.
