Nolan Machen, 95, of Lampasas, Texas passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018.

Nolan is survived by his daughter, Lori Paulson (Jerry), daughter-in-law, Janet Machen; as well as 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Nolan was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Eva Jo; as well as 2 sons (Neil & Nelson).

Nolan lived in Lampasas his entire life, except for the years he proudly volunteered for and served in World War II in the Army Air Corp – now called the U.S. Air Force.

Nolan retired from the Texas Highway Department Resident Engineer’s Office after 42 years of service.  He supervised the construction of many of the highways & bridges in Lampasas & surrounding counties.  After his retirement, he supervised construction of a number of area airports.

Nolan was a kind, loving, generous man who enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, woodworking, gardening, masonry, caring for his pecan trees, fishing and most of all – family gatherings.

Funeral services will be held at First Street Church of Christ (201 W. First, Lampasas, TX) on Thursday, December 27 at 2:00, followed by a brief graveside service at Nix Cemetery (Nix, Texas).

In lieu of flowers, Nolan would have liked for donations to be made to the Nix Community Center or charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Spring Oaks Rehabilitation Center, Family Medicine Clinic and Nolan’s faithful caregiver, Deborah Jones.



Shelly Elizabeth Gray Fidler, age 36, of Temple formerly of Burnet and Copperas Cove was tragically taken on Dec. 20, 2018 in Temple, Texas.

Shelly was born August 8, 1982 in Killeen Texas to Robert Larry (Bob) Gray and Sherry Elizabeth Smith Gray.

Shelly graduated from Lampasas High School with the Class of 2001, after high school Shelly attended and received her Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University with honors.

She was a Physical Education Coach for Belton Independent School District at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sherry Elizabeth Smith Gray and both her paternal and maternal grandparents.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, Cord Fidler of Temple; her father, Robert Larry (Bob) Gray of Troy; two aunts, Tina Warlock and Lanell Gray Jackson and numerous cousins.

The Gray family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 5-7pm Friday, Dec. 28 at Crawford-Bowers funeral Home in Copperas Cove. A memorial service celebrating Shelly’s life will be at 1pm Saturday, Dec. 29th in the Lea Ledger Auditorium at Copperas Cove High School.
