Dorothy Mae Collins, 92 of Lampasas, TX died Wednesday December 19, 2018 at Lampasas Nursing and Rehab.
She was born April 3rd, 1926 in Killeen, the daughter of Guy Willis Reding and Clara Barton (Black) Reding. Dorothy was a life-long resident of Lampasas. She graduated High School here and later married Boyd Van Clary. She was devoted homemaker and caretaker of Mr. Clary and after his death her second husband J.R. Collins. Dorothy was a member of First Street Church of Christ. She worked quietly to meet the needs of her family, friends, the community and fellow church members.
She is survived by her sons, Harrell Clary, Charles Clary (Linda), Boyd Clary (Sheila) and Marilyn Clary; daughters, Kathy Hyatt (Gary), Sharleen Alderson and a sister, Nelda Vann. There are also 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren surviving.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by both husbands Boyd Van Clary and J.R.Collins and by 2 grandchildren and her brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, at 11:30am at First Street Church of Christ. Visitation will begin at 10am at the church building. Dorothy’s body will be cremated.
Varda Lee (Simon, Childers) Scoggins, age 95 of Normangee, TX died December 18, 2018 at home after a long and eventful life. She was born October 21, 1923 in Lampasas, TX the daughter of Edward “Buck” Simon and Beatrice “Bee” (Smart) Simon. Varda worked in bookkeeping for Surety Savings and Loan and finished her work life as church secretary. She had lived in Humble, TX but most recently in Normangee with her family. She loved shopping, watching baseball and playing softball until she exceeded the age limit, and attended grandchildren’s sports activities. She was married to O.V. Childers and later met married Curtis Scoggins and lived a full and enjoyable life.
Survivors include her son, David Childers and Elizabeth Ann of Normangee; daughter in law Carolyn (Cissy) Childers; grandchildren, Mickey Childers and Slinda, Jeremy Childers, Heath Childers, Dusty Mcbryde and Zachery Childers. 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, a son, 3 sisters, 5 brothers and a grandson, Jake Childers.
A funeral service will be held Saturday Dec. 22 at 2pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Friday 12/21 from 6-8pm. Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery near Izoro.
