The San Saba Armadillos best football season ever ended last night in Abilene. It was a season that you couldn’t help but root for and hope it would go all the way to a state championship.
The Armadillos were winless two years ago, but a new coach and a new outlook took over and they were unbeaten this year, all the way to this 2A, Division 1, State Semifinals contest.
But, New Deal, ranked #3 in State, was just that good! This was the one game this year that San Saba didn’t dominate the other team. New Deal dominated this time, and it ended in an uncharacteristic San Saba loss, 35-6.
New Deal’s QB, Jett Whitfield rushed for 4TDs on 33 carries to lead their powerful rushing attack. San Saba’s only TD of the game was on a Sean O’Keefe pass to Joseph Watson on a 4th and 6 gamble.
San Saba went 14-1 in a season they’ll all remember.
New Deal returns next week to play Mason for the 2A State Championship in Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.
