Badger Football (District 14-4A)
The 3-1 Badgers go up against the Fredericksburg Billies on Friday night. The Badgers would be favored in the matchup but 2-2 Fredericksburg will be hungry. Both teams would like to finish the season in the number 2 position in district. Lampasas currently holds that spot.
Lampasas has only lost to the powerful state-ranked Liberty Hill team. Lampasas strength has always been its passing game. Badger sophomore QB Ace Whitehead has thrown 227 passes this year and has completed 167 of them for 2,203 yards and 27 TDs. Those passes have gone, primarily, to 6 different receivers who have scored the TDs.
Backing up the passing game has been the running of Jack Jerome who has carried148 times for 1,111 yards and 10 TDs, along with slot back Cameron Everts who has carried 26 times for 219 yards and 5 TDs and Whitehead himself who has ran for 234 yards and 7 TDs himself.
The offense of the Badger team, as good as it is, was outshined in the last half of the Canyon Lake game last week by the Badger defense. They held the Hawks to just 80 yards of offense.
Fredericksburg is led by senior QB Brant Bowers who has thrown 210 passes for 112 completions and 17 TDs. Bowers is also a huge threat as a runner. He has tucked and run 96 times this year for 200 yards and 6 TDs. Backing up Bowers at QB is senior running back Hobbs Price who is the workhorse who has carried the ball 76 times for 508 yards and 4 TDs. Price can also slide into the QB spot easily.
The Billies, like Lampasas, have several receivers to throw to. There are six that have caught TD passes, five who have taken passes for over 100 yards, one of them Junior Jarrett Beard has taken passes for a total of 611 yards and 3 TDs. Another, Senior Joshua Handley, has taken passes for 424 yards and 5 Tds.
This game will likely see lots of aerial action on the part of both teams. The game will be played in Badger Stadium at 7:30pm.
It will be broadcast live over KCYL 1450AM and on the internet at lampasasradio.com.
