There were mixed reports from hunters on Saturday’s opening morning of deer season, but it appeared to us that, “It coulda’ been better.”
“The wind was blowing pretty hard and it was a bit warmer than we’d all have liked” was what the hunters told us at the annual Big Buck Contest out at Hoffpauir Ranch and Supply.
Of course that was Saturday morning only, and it evidently got better because Game Warden Sean Bayless said he saw lots of deer killed for the weekend as a whole. He said he saw some nice racks and thought it was a pretty normal opening weekend. As to violations and problems, he said that was pretty normal too, with improper tagging, some trespassing and similar complaints coming in.
