What a tough football game that was…last Friday night in Bryan, when the Badgers had a bruising game against the Brazosport Exporters. The Exporters announced they were there with a first possession long run for a TD, and it was a contest to the end with Lampasas coming out on top 42-35 in the end. Outstanding play came from a number of Badgers, with QB Ace Whitehead at the top with his steely, cool-headed determination, a huge long distance TD run and the usual high passing percentage. Landon Irvin came in from his usual defense-only position and did an outstanding job running, with 6 carries for 84 yards, and one of them a 62 yarder. He scored 2 TDs. Jaylon Porter, who we have seen so much from this year, scored twice on pass catches. Cameron Everts had 8 catches for 166 yards and Jack Jerome had a TD rushing.
That’s all in the record books now. Lampasas goes on to play La Vernia – again. Who’da thought it? Lampasas played La Vernia in pre-district and lost to them in overtime at the goal line by a point 51-50.
Lampasas went on with their season, and so did La Vernia. Now they meet again.
La Vernia’s offense has averaged 283 yard rushing and 201 yards passing per game this year. So far, it looks like they have little defensive stats such as sacks, or even tackles, though they actually didn’t seem to give their opponents much ball time anyway. They have averaged 2 interceptions per game.
The bulk of the scoring has come from #18 Chadwick, the senior QB who has run for an average of 103.8 yards per game and has passed to his receivers for an average of 221.5 yards per game. His pass completion rate is about 64%.
The other big threats include #30, junior D. Mendoza, who has averaged 96.8 yards per game rushing and three receivers #2, #6 and #7 who have accounted for about 18 of the 27 TD pass receptions this year. The rest of TD passes were spread among a number of other receivers.
Lampasas has to recover from the bruises of last week’s game and put it together for this week. They were on the practice field early this morning getting ready for this week’s challenge.
