Was it a bomb?

Lampasas Radio received the press release below on Wednesday evening from local police:

Press Release

City of Lampasas Police

At 5:52pm today, a construction worker called the Lampasas Police Department.  He had been cleaning up at 805 West 1st Street due to a house fire that occurred there on 10.12.18.  He found a suspicious object in the debris that resembled a homemade explosive device.  The Police and Fire Department responded.  They blocked the street in front of the house and notified the immediate neighbors.

Ft Hood's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Company and the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agency were contacted and responded to assist. The scene was secured.  The incident is currently under investigation and further information will be released when available.

The house discussed here was involved in a major fire Oct. 12th. The Lampasas FD arrived at the scene around 11am and all residents of the home were outside at the time. The intense fire was put out within about an hour, but heavily damaged the inside of the house and did considerable structural damage to the fire area.

According to the Fire Marshal’s investigation, the fire was ruled “accidental” and had to do with one of the children of the female resident who lived there.

The “possible explosive device” incident appears to be completely unrelated to the fire. The “rent house” appears in records as belonging to GILMAC CATTLE CO LP of Austin.
