Lampasas 42 Taylor 20 Lampasas is now tied for number 2 in district.
In front of a home crowd on a fairly pleasant but cool evening at Badger Field, Lampasas’ Badgers bested the Taylor Ducks in a good game with two well-matched teams.
The game action started with the Badgers pass and run game pushing in one TD on a pass play and getting the PAT while Taylor used the same mix to push one run across the line, but failed the PAT, ending quarter at 7-6 Lampasas.
The second quarter saw Lampasas opening it up with over 100 yards in passing yardage and 55 rushing to get a TD both ways with PATS, while the Badger defense was able to completely shut down the Duck offense.
Coming back on the field after the half with the score 21-6 the Badgers needed to keep it up. Taylor wanted to turn it around, and they tried, rushing in a TD for 6 more but missing the conversion again. They did hold the Badgers out of the end zone in the third period, but it wasn’t going to be that way in the last one.
Just when it looked like the Badgers might nurse their 21-12 lead, Ace Whitehead came out passing for another TD to make it 28-12. Taylor came back to immediately score and convert and it was closer at 28-20.
Taylor came back with a pooch kick which the Badgers ran back to the 42, then moved further into Duck territory where QB Whitehead was pressed and tucked and ran it into the end zone.
With the score 35-20, Taylor took the kick and began its push back. With a couple minutes left, Taylor suffered at the hands of the Badger defense and had to turn it over on downs. Lampasas took the ball back and on the first play out the ball went to Cameron Everts who ran it in, making the score 42 – 20. Taylor’s last shot ended with an interception by Badger Kobe Allen in the end zone.
