Lampasas beats old rival Burnet Bulldogs 56-7 w/aerial assault.
Friday night in Burnet, Lampasas shined with QB Ace Whitehead throwing to receivers Cameron Everts, Jaylon Porter, Michael Murray and Nick Olivarez. On the ground it was Jack Jerome, once again grinding it out and going over 100 yards with his 17 carries. The Badger scores were recorded in every quarter while Burnet’s only score came in the first quarter. It was 14-7 at the end of the first, 35-7 at the half. In the third period Lampasas scored another 14 to make it 49-7, and they capped that off with another 7 points in the 4th.
It was a long hard night for the Burnet Bulldogs as, even though they had 326 yards offense to Lampasas 475, they just couldn’t seem to get the ball across the goal line.
Lampasas is now 1-0 in district as they head into next week’s biggest challenge, the Liberty Hill Panthers. Liberty Hill is ranked number 1 in district and going into Friday games was ranked number 4 in our 4A-1 division while Lampasas was ranked number 35. However, the same sports data reporting group had Lampasas as number 6 in district. We notice that today they have moved Lampasas into the number 2 spot, just behind Liberty Hill.
Ahead of Lampasas in the rankings going into Friday were Canyon Lake and Fredericksburg. Canyon Lake did beat Taylor last night, 37-20, as expected. Nobody expected what Liberty Hill did to Fredericksburg, running up the score 69-7. Fredericksburg had looked strong going into the game, but was no match at all for the Panthers.
Looking into Friday, can the upstart Badgers, with the sophomore QB and sophomore/junior receivers and a sophomore running back…can this young team rise to occasion and show Liberty Hill the challenge they need to be faced with? And do it on the Panther’s turf?
The Badger’s challenge will be played out on Friday,10/19 in Liberty Hill.
