What’s Going On?

Lampasas Graduates sleeping late. Likely exhausted from the late night (or all night) Project Graduation party, this year’s crop of LHS graduates is undoubtedly still sacked out this morning. This year’s party took place at the new Putters and Gutters fun center on Hwy 281S. There the graduates were able to play miniature golf, bowl, eat and enjoy all of the many facilities there.

We have to insert here that we attended the Lampasas Graduation Ceremony last evening at Badger Field. It was somewhat long because this was a huge class, but kudos to the Lampasas ISD staff for making it efficient and flawless and beautifully done.

Thank you to Lampasas High and Lampasas ISD staff for a good year all around. We have had students with national academic recognition, talent awards, and our athletic program just keeps getting better with lots of playoffs and even state level competition this year. Lampasas does have a really great school system!

Lampasas makes the news in big city papers as the video of a local deputy that appears to show him punching out an area teen circulates. We briefly spoke to the Sheriff yesterday and he had little to say other than the fact that it has all been turned over to special investigators. The incident took place on Thursday night (Friday wee hours) when two 18 yr old boys with Copperas Cove addresses and one 17 yr old girl were stopped by Deputy Logan Jones. Several other officers, including Lampasas Policemen, were also at the scene.

The two boys were evidently pulled from the car for arrest (one for DWI), but the girl wasn’t. She took a shaky video of part of what took place and posted it on facebook, along with a claim of police brutality. You can see that video, which appears to show the deputy sitting on the teen and punching him several times while another officer is holding his legs, on lots of web sites including our lampasasradio, radiogram online and facebook pages.
The event has brought on an investigation and Deputy Jones has been put on paid  administrative leave, pending results of the investigation.
