Derwood Jones, 80 of Lampasas, TX died Tuesday May 9, 2017 at his home. Derwood was born September 19, 1936 in Burnet, TX the son of Attis and Verna (Mace) Jones. He lived in
Burnet for 11 years. Derwood graduated from High School in Lampasas and went to Texas Tech where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. He served
in the U.S. Army, then worked as a city planner for Lubbock and in Alabama. He also worked and lived in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was chosen to work in Washington D. C. and receive special training for the Army Corps of Engineers. He lived and worked in Arlington, TX for many years, then retired in 1995 and moved back to Lampasas. He loved the outdoors and his dogs. Derwood was an avid golfer and his fraternity brothers were very important to him.
Visitation will be Friday May 12th from 1-2pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Funeral service is at 2pm. Derwood’s body will be cremated following the service. Family includes wife, Peggy Jones of Lampasas; two sons, Steve Jones and wife Camille of Granbury and Scott Jones of Bellville; daughter, Sandi Wright and husband Tommy; sister-in-law, Cynthia Jones of San Antonio; grandchildren, Trey Jones, Chelsea Ramos, Tyler Jones, Tyler Bond and Kyle Jones andtwo great-grandchildren. Derwood was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nina
Lee Rasmussen and by his brother, Larry Jones.
