Lady Badger Softball heads to Drippings Springs today for a 7pm bidistrict game with Giddings, the District 20 second place team. It will be a 2 of 3 series with the 2nd game to be played at Madisonville on Saturday at 6:30pm. If a third game is needed, it will be played immediately after that second game on Saturday night.
If Lampasas gets the bi-district series win over Giddings, next week they will be up against another area team in a second round series. Giddings is similar to Lampasas in many ways and it should be a close matchup.
Tonight’s Lady Badger game will be broadcast live over KCYL 1450 AM Radio and online at lampasasradio.com where you click on the “Softball” button. Be with us at 101.9 FM next Tuesday morning at 8am when Coach Drew Cleavinger and one or more Lady Badgers will be in our studio for the weekly Softball Show. That’s when we’ll find out about the team, the games and the playoff schedule.
Badger Baseball is at home Friday, hosting Salado in the last regular season game for both teams, and the last game for the Badger seniors on their home field. So-o, it will Senior Night and some recognitions will be made before the game starts.Even though this is the last game for the Badgers, it likely will not be as significant for them as for the Salado Eagles. Salado is currently the number 2 team in district and as such they will get a much better playoff position than the third place team. For Lampasas, it is more a pride thing as they lost big to Salado on their field earlier in the season. It would be a significant spiritual victory for the Badgers.
Look for Brayden Allen to start on the mound tonight, with several relievers available, including a couple of freshmen, Marty Ybarra and Hunter Rebando that had significant pitching pre-varsity success.
Coach Doege has been working to develop a deep bull pen staff. With the first year of the UIL pitch count rules, and teams that often play 2 of 3 games, the pitch count rules will limit teams with only a couple of good pitchers. The batting order has also seen significant changes as the season matures. Here is the way it looks for the district in this last week:
District 19 Standings
Liberty Hill 11-0 22-2
Salado 8-3 14-11-1
Taylor 7-4 18-6
Lampasas 6-5 16-9
Burnet 5-6 8-16
Llano 2-10 7-18
Leander 0-11 0-19-1
