Lady Badger Softball’s 2nd district game of the season, played in Lampasas Friday afternoon, was a disappointment to the team and fans, losing 2-6 to Salado’s Lady Eagles.
It has been a grueling week for the girls, play-ing a district game on Tuesday in Taylor, then to San Marcos for three games on Wednesday and Thursday and back home where many of the girls were in track and field events Thurs-day evening. Then, back at it early Friday with a moved-up 1pm game Friday against Salado in order to beat rain chances.
Coach Drew Cleavinger said they just didn’t play their best game, especially the first half of it. But, as she said, “at the end of the day it is what it is.”
The girls, she said, “ had bases loaded twice in the later half of the game but just couldn’t finish it out. I am confident that after some overdue rest these girls will compete well against Llano Tuesday.”
We’ll talk more with Coach Drew on Tuesday morning at 8am on the Lady Badger Softball Show on Lampasas Radio.
The next game, at Llano on Tuesday at 6:30pm, will be broadcast live over KCYL 1450AM and on the internet at lampasasradio.com.
The Badger Varsity Baseball team had a little easier time this week with no games until Thursday, but they did put in two that day, beating Jarrell and Killeen High. On Friday they lost to Brownwood 3-8 with the Braden Allen on the mound for most of the game, relieved by Hunter Gholson for the last inning.
Next up the Badgers beat Florence 6-5 with freshman Hunter Rebando opening on the mound and replaced in the 4th inning by saver Hunter Gholson. Rebando had 6 strikeouts in his 4 + innings on the mound. Hunter Gholson had 2 hits, one of them resulting in an RBI. Santos Vega and Levi Geagley had 3 each QABs.
The Badgers will play at 10am in the morning with a rematch with Killeen High, who they had beat 4-1 on Thursday. It will be the last of the Badger Baseball tournament games.
Next week, on Tuesday, the Badgers will begin their district compe-tition games with the road game against Llano.
The game, like all of the Badger baseball games, will be broadcast live over KACQ FM at 101.9FM and over the internet at Http://www.mixlr.com/lampasasradio
Badger Boys Soccer, up against the District Champion Salado Eagles Friday, lost that game by a very respectable 3-4.
The Badgers finish district in 4th place and earned a playoff game. Coach Ryan Race was proud of the team’s play and outcome yester-day, considering the competition. The team is now waiting for ar-rangements on their playoff game.
The Powerlifting Regional Meet is in Smithville today and Texas Colorguard Competition is at Eastview high.
