Lampasas Badger Boys Basketball team created some local excitement last Friday night when they beat Liberty Hill 56-53 in overtime and became the district leader.
The exciting game saw Phillip Blackstock sink a 3 pointer as the overtime buzzer went off and the game ended with no chance for the Panthers to answer.
District standings now look like this:

Lampasas will have another very important game on Tuesday as they meet Taylor, now the number 4 team based on their losses to Burnet and Liberty Hill and wins over Salado and Llano. Pre-season picks by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches for the top four district teams were Liberty Hill, Burnet, Taylor and Lampasas – in that order. Lampasas has, in this first round of district play, beat the top two already. Tuesday, in a 6:15pm home game, Lampasas will meet Taylor. Go Badgers!
Lampasas Lady Badger Basketball lost to the really good Liberty Hill Lady Panthers last Friday 21-84. Lampasas now drops to the number 5 position in the 7 team district at the end of the first round of play.
On Tuesday the Lady Badgers will host Taylor, their first district opponent, as the second round begins. In the first round Lampasas lost to Taylor 38-50, and the local girls, coached by Jenny Bowden Roberts, hope to start the second round on the winning side of the scoreboard.
The Lometa Hornets beat Priddy last Tuesday 53-44 and are now 4-0 in the 7 team district. They go up against Mullin on the road Tuesday, Jan 17.
Lometa Lady Hornets Basketball lost to Zephyr 24-40 and will meet Mullin on Tuesday.
Lampasas Badger Boy’s Soccer went 0-2-1 at the Akin’s Cup last week. They head to Florence on Tuesday for the next match. Then they’ll be at Canyon Lake Thursday for a tournament.
