Badger Football

In a wild and exciting game at Badger Stadium, Lampasas' Badgers came up just short to fall to Waco Robinson 70 - 68. Both teams ran up and down the field in a track meet combining for over 1,300 yards of offense before the final horn sounded.

Each team scored 10 touchdowns and amassed over 600 total yards of offense. But in the end, failed extra point attempts proved be the difference.

After going three and out on its opening possession of the game, Lampasas found the end zone on six consecutive possessions to close out the first half with a 42-34 lead. The Badgers then forced a fumble on the first play of the second half and marched 34 yards to pay dirt to extend their lead to 49-34. The Rockets stormed back on their next possession to cut the lead to 49-41. Then disaster struck as the Rockets picked up a Badger fumble and returned it 65 yards for another touchdown. After a 2-point conversion, the game was tied 49-49. After a 1 yard run by Sean Williams on the next Badger possession, a bobbled snap on the extra point attempt would keep the Badger lead at six. The teams would trade touchdowns to put the score at 63-61 after the Badgers' attempt at a 2 point conversion failed. The Rockets added one more touchdown to take a 9 point lead, 70-61.

With under three minutes left on the clock, the Badgers capped a 70 yard drive with a 13 yard touchdown pass to Jason Murphey to cut the score to 70-68. On the ensuing kickoff, the Badgers successfully executed an on-side kick to get the ball back with 45 seconds on the clock. However, the play was negated by an offside penalty against the Badgers, forcing another attempt. Unfortunately, the magic did not return for the second attempt as the Rockets fell on the ball, then ran out the clock to secure the victory.

The Badgers amassed 638 total yards of offense with 382 yards through the air and 256 yards on the ground.

Individual Stats:

Cohen Cockburn - 26-33 for 382 yards and 5 touchdowns with 92 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns

Jason Murphey - 6 receptions for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns

Brandon Pierino - 5 receptions for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns

Next up for the Badgers will be the Wimberley Texans, again at home on Badger Field.

The Lometa Hornets lost a bit of their luster last night. After winning big over Mullin last week, they lost to Cherokee by a 22-72 score in front of their home town fans.
