On Saturday at approximately 8:35pm, the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office received a report of an assault in progress in the 10000 block of US Highway 190 East. While Deputies were responding to the scene they were advised that the suspect, a 43 yr old white male, was fleeing the scene in a midsized white pickup traveling east on US Highway 190. The victim of the assault remained at the scene and was not with the suspect as he fled. The suspect was located a short distance away on FM 1715 and detained by Deputies for the investigation. After conversing with a Deputy the suspect obtained a can of gasoline from his vehicle, doused himself in the gasoline and ignited himself on fire.
The Deputy was able to extinguish the flames after several minutes. Acadian Ambulance responded to the incident and the suspect was transported by helicopter to Scott & White Hospital to be treated for his injuries. This investigation is ongoing. Earlier that morning, at approximately 9:06am the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office received a report of a suicidal subject in the 300 block of CR 4744 in Lampasas County. The suspect had threatened family and friends with a firearm and was threatening to take his own life at the time 911 was called. Deputies responded to the scene and located a 78 yr old male subject with a gun in the front yard of his residence. Deputies were involved in a brief stand-off with the male suspect in his front yard until the suspect retreated into the residence and barricaded himself inside. The suspect refused to communicate with law enforcement on scene for approximately two hours until the suspect was observed outside in the back yard of the residence. The suspect was contacted by law enforcement and was taken into custody after a brief struggle. The suspect was transported to Rollins Brook Hospital for a medical evaluation and was then transferred to the Lampasas County Jail where he is currently held on one charge of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer which is a first degree felony.
