Mother Esther Lee Hicks entered into peaceful rest on Friday August 12, 2016. She was born in Lampasas, Texas on October 9, 1930 to Missionary Ruby Lee Wilson Hicks and Elder Thomas DeWitt Hicks who preceded her in death.
She received her formal education from the Historical Colored School in Lampasas and then lived in Temple with Bro Sam Sam where she attended Dunbar High School and graduated. She later attended Houston Tillotson College in Austin and received a Bachelor of Science Degree.
She was never married nor had children, but she helped so many young people during her life time. She worked for the Holy Cross Hospital in Austin TX. as an LVN, and worked over 30 years at Gary Job Corps in San Marcos as aSafety Coordinator and as an EEOC Officer. She was a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission in the city of Kyle, and she was also a licensed Barber and an excellent Auto Mechanic.
She was the Church Mother of the Hicks Chapel Church of God in Christ in Lampasas and was saved under the leadership of Elder TC Collins Jr. She travelled for years over the highways on Sundays and special occasions from Kyle to Lampasas. She started a youth group at church. When her health began to fail, she put her membership at the Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ in Austin.
She is survived by several cousins, very special friends, her church family and a host of friends and co-workers.
A funeral service will be held Friday August 19 at 11am at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
