Being off the air for most of Sunday and Monday deserves some explanation.
KACQ Radio, like most technical operations, will suffer an occasional "technical difficulty," but this one was a doozie!
There are always a few mice around the transmitter shack up on the mountain. Somehow, a large mouse(chicken) snake got in the building and amazingly managed to get inside the transmitter cabinet. There it evidently got across the 5,000 volt power supply terminals and...sort of "exploded" ??
The incident took place mid-morning Sunday and later that afternoon we were back on air...but on Monday we learned there were other parts of the clean up that needed attention when the circuit breakers kicked again. After considerable downtime, by late Monday afternoon, we were back in service again.
Our fingers are crossed. We hope that doesn't happen again!
