AGSCI Faculty in Workshop A New CTE Program is Planned

To better strengthen their teaching skills and to prepare for a new Welding program at LHS, three CTE faculty members have been participating in a three day welding technology workshop held annually by Austin Community College.

Dr. Steve Forsythe, AGSCI Teacher and CTE Coordinator, AG Sci teacher Ricky Prescott, and AgSci/BT teacher Clint Nygard are participating daily in industry training at both Hays High School and Canyon Lake High School in Hays and Comal County.

Above, 2nd year Lampasas Ag educator Clint Nygard prepares to TIG weld(Tungsten Inert Gas) aluminum on day two of the three day welding workshop.

The faculty members are gearing up for a new welding program offered as part of the LISD CTE programs available to middle school and High school students. Included in the three days of “hands –on” instruction were using the latest in aluminum, stainless steel, and Metal Inert Gas equipment. Additionally, eight hours this week were devoted to several CNC Electric Plasma arc cutting systems and computer training on use of design software for the cutting systems. Various industry reps served as instructors with the three day session coordinated by Tim Strouse, ACC Welding Technology Instructor and Gary Adams- Torchmate CNC cutting systems liaison.
