When the Republican Primary was over in March, the 3 way race for the District 54 State Representative Nomination resulted in a need for a runoff election between former Killeen Mayor Scott Cosper and Austin Ruiz, a Killeen Optometrist. When that runoff came in May, there was a margin of only 40 votes in favor of Scott Cosper. With the race so close, a recount was called for. That recount took place on Thursday.
The results are in, and Cosper is still the winner of the nomination, though he did lose one vote in Bell County, dropping the margin to 39 votes. Lampasas election results were left unchanged.
Cosper will now meet the Democratic nominee, Sandra Blankenship, in the General Election. She is challenging him for the seat that is currently held by Republican Jimmie Don Aycock, who did not seek re-election.
