Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found unresponsive June 5 at his off-post residence in Killeen, Texas, and later died June 8 at Scott and White Hospital, Temple, Texas. Sgt. Duane Cass Shaw III, 34, whose home of record is listed as Laredo, Texas, entered the U.S. Army in December 2005 as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist . He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood. Shaw deployed in support of Operation New Dawn from May 2011 to November 2011 and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2013 to November 2013. He was the recipient of numerous decorations from various campaigns and assignments. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
