The 66th Annual A.C. January Memorial Day Invitational Golf Tournament will tee off at 8am on Saturday at the Hancock Park Golf Course.
The three day tournament is named in honor of A.C. January, one time pro golfer in his own right, and father of Don January, a pro golfer that was on the PGA tour with considerable impact in the 60s and early 70s. Don had 10 PGA tour wins, took the PGA Championship in '67, after a 3rd Place in the U.S. Open that year. He later tied for 4th in the Masters in '71.
A.C. January was the Hancock Park Golf Course Pro for many years here, and son, Don, played the course many times with his dad over those years.
This year the Memorial Day tournament is reported to have 192 entries, which is filled, and is set to start bright and early Saturday morning, though many of the players will be on the course on Friday with practice rounds.
We spoke to staff at the pro shop and they tell us that even though many of the tournament players will be on the course Friday, the course will still be open for regular play.
