In addition to the golf tournament at Hancock Park over the holiday weekend, the Hancock Park free-flow spring fed Pool will be open and drawing dippers to its cool waters.
There was a time when a somewhat polarized community opinion debated on whether or not to “fill in” the old Hancock Park Pool. The suggestion was made at one point to “doze the old Hostess House into the pool and cover it all up.”
That aroused many others with fond memories of summer afternoons in the pool and eventually, it was all re-designed and restored. The Hostess House received a large private donation for restoral and the City funded pool work and the area was saved.
Today, people come from many other communities specifically to swim in our free-flow Hancock Pool, one of few such facilities left in Texas.
Both Hancock and the more smaller and more modern Hanna Springs Pools open on Saturday at noon. They're there for the swimming until 7pm in the evening.
