Austin, TX -- Last month, Sen. Charles Perry (R - Lubbock) filed priority legislation, Senate Bill 4, to eliminate sanctuary cities in the State of Texas.
According to the release from the Texas Senate, “Since filing this legislation, there has been a push to turn colleges and universities into "sanctuary campuses."
"Our legislation is simple,” the release says, “government entities cannot undermine the rule of law by ignoring our immigration laws. If colleges and universities intend to follow the example of sanctuary cities, we must ensure that our legislation specifically includes them.”
Earlier this week, Governor Greg Abbott tweeted, emphasizing that his office would not allow sanctuary campuses to exist, stating: "Texas will not tolerate sanctuary campuses or cities. I will cut funding for any state campus if it establishes sanctuary status."
Perry says that "I look forward to a unified effort this session to comprehensively address this problem once and for all,” said Perry.
