Lampasas Badger Soccer started it’s preseason Friday with a scrimmage tournament in Copperas Cove where the Badgers were victorious.

The first game was against China Spring, with the Badgers on top 4-0 at halftime. Coach Ryan Race says that all contributed and the scores were made by Joh Fuentes, Greg Velasquez, Logan Bender and Jared Salazar. In the second match, the boys went up against Cameron Yoe and made an impressive showing, defeating the Yoemen 10-0. Logan Bender had a great showing with 4 goals, Dillon Burns with 2 scores, and one each for Warren Burke, Jon Fuentes, Greg Velasquez and Juan Barrera.

Badger soccer continues their pre season Tuesday the 3rd at home when they host Smithville.

Lampasas JV Boy’s soccer beat Copperas Cove 2-0 with Jose Alvarez making both goals. The JV went on to play Killeen Shoemaker and lost 2-3 with goals by Jose Alvarez and Brice Bredeson.

Next up for the Badger JV is in Gatesville on Friday.

Lady Badger Soccer played in their first scrimmage tournament this season against Killeen Shoemaker and Killeen High.  Coach Kiff Wiemers said the JV had a good learning experience and played a fairly tight game, but sadly came up short 0-2 to Shoemaker and 0-1 to Killeen high off of a penalty kick from a handball in the box.

Coach Wiemers said that the varsity had an impressive first game where the Lady Badgers maintained possession throughout the entire game against Shoemaker.  Shoemakerwas able to get a goal in the back ofthe Badgers net on a breakaway run against a young defense. Coach Wiemers said that the girls were able to learn, and keep them out the rest of the game.  Rose Everhart had a break away goal in the last few minutes of the game to tie up the score.

The Badgers second game against Killeen High started again very well, but fatigue started to show.  Killeen was able to make two top notch goals to go ahead with the victory 2-0. The coach said the team played with heart, and never made any major mistakes, especially out of the back with such a young back line and inexperienced goalies.

According to the coach, “this is the strongest I believe we have looked as a unit by the start of a season.”
