L. Sherwood Yancy, 87 of Lampasas, Texas died Tuesday December 27, 2016 at home. Sherwood was born August 6, 1929 in Coryell County, Texas the son of Franklin N. Yancy and Odessa (Daniel) Yancy.
He moved to Naruna with his family in 1942 and finished school in Lampasas. He married Carolyn Briggs in February of 1955. Sherwood began working for First National Bank at the age of 18, serving there in many positions and finally advancing to the position of Vice President. He retired after 40 years and then continued his ranching for many years. Sherwood was a member of First Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Yancy; two Daughters, Malinda Yancy Johnson, and husband Jeffrey; Karen Yancy; Granddaughter, Meredith Johnson; brother Howard Yancy and some nieces and nephews.
Sherwood was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Daniel, who was killed in action during WWII; and by his sister, DeLoyce Yancy-Alexander.
Visitation will be Thursday Dec. 29 from 5-7pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
The funeral service will be held Friday Dec. 30, at 2pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
