At 4am on Saturday there was a two vehicle accident on Hwy 281 approximately two miles north of Lampasas. We learn from DPS that an 18-wheeler was north bound, when for unknown reasons a 2002 Ford Excursion driven by Caleb Bonde of Hot Springs, Arkansas drifted into the path of the 18-wheeler. The vehicles struck head-on. Bonde was pronounced dead at the scene by Lampasas County JP Camron Brister. The single occupant of the 18-wheeler, Edward Treloar of Granbury was not injured.
No charges are pending.
DPS reminds us that holiday travel is not over, and despite an increased presence on the roadway to insure our safety, it is imperative that drivers remain focused on driving and stay alert. Do not drive distracted, take frequent breaks and stay safe!
