Lampasas Radio received the following statement from Brian McGovern at TCEQ following a query about the cleanup after the overturned tanker on Saturday and the environmental concerns:
TCEQ Austin Region staff was on scene at the overturned tanker spill (located at the 12000 block of Hwy 183, 12 miles south of Lampasas and approximately 800 feet north of North Rocky Creek/bridge) which occurred around 10:30 am on Nov. 12, 2016. Staff was on scene at 12:30 pm to monitor and observe cleanup activities undertaken by the Responsible Party, Brenco Marketing Corporation - tanker/ fuel transporter. TCEQ staff returned to the site the morning of Sunday Nov. 13, 2016, to ensure planned activities from the night before were conducted and to observe containment barriers and ongoing cleanup activities. TCEQ staff has been in contact with the RP’s contractors on Monday to ensure all impacted areas have been identified and that, where impacts have been found, proper cleanup activities are continuing.
TCEQ staff will continue to monitor activities until all impacted areas have been properly remediated and impacted material properly disposed of. TCEQ’s investigation is ongoing at this time.
