Daryl Lynn Spencer, 55, passed away on Nov. 10th, 2016 at his home in Lampasas, Tx surrounded by his family. Daryl was born June 9, 1961 in Elizabeth City, NC to Jack Spencer and Marie Smith Spencer.
He grew up in Shawboro, NC and graduated from Currituck County High School in Barco, NC in 1979. Daryl worked for a Pipe fitting company for two years before joining the U.S. Army in 1982, and served at many duty stations abroad and state side in Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense. He met his wife Beverly while they both were serving in Korea. Daryl retired from the Army in 2002 as a SFC (Sergeant First Class) at Ft Hood, Texas.
Daryl, being one to never sit still or “retire,” began his second career as a CTC Instructor for Troop Schools on Ft Hood and taught military sustainment courses to soldiers. He had a passion for teaching others.
Daryl’s other passions included his yard and landscaping where he loved to design/create ponds and gardens for his family to enjoy. He enjoyed working the land, as well as hunting, fishing, boating and golfing.
Daryl married Beverly Burras Spencer in 1991 in Alexandria, Al. They were happily married for 25 years and she survives his passing.
He is also survived by his son Kenneth Beebe and wife Audrey of Lampasas; Christina McDonald and husband Max of Killeen; and Corey Spencer of Texas City, Tx.
His grandchildren include Sierra, Joseph, Ashley, Joshua, Dakota, Max Jr, Gabriel and Saphira.
Daryl’s surviving siblings are Jimmie Spencer, Jackie Spencer & Jeanette, Annette Sawyer, Steve Spencer & Belinda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of North Carolina.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service is to be Nov. 19th at 11am at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be from 9:30am until 11am. Daryl’s body will be cremated following the funeral and his remains placed at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery columbarium.
