District Judge John Gauntt's court in Lampasas last Friday saw eighteen cases before the bench. There were eleven cases involving drugs and the balance ranged from murder to theft and assault to tampering with evidence.
The murder case sees Jose Guadalupe Matias of Lometa accused of the crime following indictment in mid August. There will evidently be some sort of plea presented in a Dec. 2nd re-appearance in court.
Cases settled include a theft, for which Michael Douglas Smith of Copperas Cove will get 2 yrs extra probation. Brittany Rae Marez, 27 of Lampasas, pled guilty in a possession of drugs case and got a 15 month State Jail sentence. Shawn Michael Black, 31 of Lampasas, was charged with inducing/authorizing sexual performance with a child and after turning in a plea, got a 5 yr deferred adjudication probation sentence and a $2,000 fine.
Dusty Duke Whatley, 22 of Copperas Cove received a 10 yr prison sentence for manufacture or delivery of drugs.
