Looking Into The Weekend

Young Eagles Flight Rally: Kids 8-17 will show up at the airport Saturday morning for free airplane rides. The Young Eagles Flight Rally is a wonderfully imaginative and giving event put on by some gracious Central Texas private pilots. They show up at the airport with parents between 8 and 10am, get a briefing and a little education on airplanes, and up they go for a free and thrilling flight over Lampasas.

Hunting with the Soldiers, an organization that, according to representative Ashley Lemaster, provides hunts and fishing trips to veterans and service members that are suffering from PTSD, is having a fun-fundraiser Saturday. According to Lemaster, the group also provides scholarships to the "gold star kids," children of lost soldiers.

The group is having its annual fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 15th, at the Choc Gillen Memorial VFW Post in Lampasas.

Plans for the day include BBQ-Pulled Pork, hamburgers and hot dogs, along with washer pitching, raffles and a big live auction for their fund raiser. For pure entertainment, the Back Creek Band will perform.

 Courthouse Tours to Begin

Representatives of Lampasas civic and business organizations have announced guided tours of the state's third oldest operating courthouse.

After receiving several requests from local citizens with an interest in learning more about the history of the 130 year old Lampasas County Courthouse, the Lampasas Historical Commission, along with Vision Lampasas and the downtown Courtyard Square Association, have agreed on hosting regularly scheduled guided tours of the facility.  Clydell Wallace, Chair of the Lampasas County Historical Commission, has researched and composed a guided tour that explains the history and architecture of the courthouse.

" Our goal is to give the public an opportunity to see their historic treasure ", stated Wallace, adding the tour will include visits to all three floors of the courthouse so visitors can see the distinctive staircase, the commanding courtroom, and the fascinating clockworks.  Local representatives from the Historical Commission and Vision Lampasas will host the tours each Saturday at 11am and 2pm every Saturday except holidays and downtown community festivals.

The Mooonlight Madness Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for the Colorado River Cattlewomen, is having its very different kind of golf tournament on Saturday evening. Players will show up at the golf course on Saturday at 5pm for a dinner, some information and instructions, tee-times, etc. and shortly after they'll tee-off with glowing golf balls and an evening of fun.
