A Great Season Comes To An End

The Badger football season came to an end Friday night as the Badgers fell to a powerful McCallum Knights team.  The Knights set the tone early as they took the opening kick-off 81 yards to paydirt and never looked back as they cruised to a 58-28 win over the Badgers.  The Knights used a powerful running game and a stingy defense to control the clock and the scoreboard.  The Badgers put up a valiant effort, but in the end, it wasn't enough.

We want to congratulate the Badger football team for a great season.  Even though it ended with a loss in the first round of the playoffs, the Badgers showed tremendous determination and grit to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2000.  With the Junior Varsity squad coming off a 9-1 season, the future looks bright for the Badger football program.

Kenny and Darrell enjoyed bringing you all the exciting action of the Badger football season.  We will also be bringing you the basketball games when district starts later in January.  If you would like to sponsor the basketball broadcasts, contact the radio station at 512-556-6193.

Go Badgers!!!

The Lampasas Badgers defeated the Hutto Hippos 47-20 Friday night to secure a playoff spot for the first time in 9 years.  The Badgers used a strong offensive and defensive effort to put away the game.  Leading 21-7 at halftime, Aaron Reyna took the opening kickoff of the second half 95-yards to paydirt.  The Badgers defense then forced a fumble at the Hippo 21.  The offense responded with another touchdown to put the Badgers up 34-7 and the rout was on.

We want to congratulate the Badgers team and coaches as enter the first round of the 4A Division II playoffs.  They travel to Georgetown this Friday night to take on the Austin McCallum Knights.  The game will be aired on KCYL 1450 and on the web at www.lampasasradio.com.  Kenny Murray and Darrell Brooks will be at the game with all the play-by-play action.  The special playoff edition of the Joey McQueen show begins around 6:55 PM with the big playoff game to follow at 7:30 PM.

Playoff Scenarios

Already in:  Lake Travis, Killeen, Hendrickson

Close:  Hutto

Needs Help:  Lampasas, Marble Falls

By the Numbers

Marble Falls win over Hendrickson has provided some interesting developments for the playoff picture.  I've been crunching the numbers all night and determined that Lampasas needs a little help to get into the playoffs.  There is now a possibility of a three-way tie for the third and fourth playoffs spots.  Should Lampasas, Marble Falls, and Hendrickson end up tied, Lampasas would be left out of the playoffs, even with a win over Hutto to claim.  On all tie-breaker scenarios I've looked at, the Hendrickson Hawks would secure one of the available spots.  That leaves only one spot for Lampasas, Marble Falls, or Hutto.  Is everyone confused?  Well, to make it a little easier, the following is what each team needs to secure a playoff spot.

Hutto - Defeat Lampasas and they are in.  Hutto holds the tie breaker edge over Marble Falls in all scenarios.

Lampasas - Must defeat Hutto AND either a Marble Falls loss OR a Hendrickson win.  With their defeat of Hendrickson, Marble Falls grabbed the tie breaker edge over Lampasas in a three-way tie between Lampasas, Marble Falls, and Hendrickson.  If Hendrickson wins, Lampasas owns the tie breaker over Marble Falls

Marble Falls - Must defeat Lake Travis AND a Hendrickson loss AND a Lampasas win.  Marble Falls chances are slim.  Their only hope for the playoffs is a three-way tie between them, Lampasas, and Hendrickson.  Both Lampasas and Hutto hold the head-to-head advantage over Marble Falls in a two-way tie.  Hutto holds the three-way tie advantage over Marble Falls.  Marble Falls has a big hill to climb.  The biggest obstacle they face is putting a halt to Lake Travis' 39-game win streak.

No matter what happens, we want the Lampasas Badgers to finish the district on a high note with a big win this Friday night over the Hutto Hippos.

Tale of Two Halves

Saturday, 24 October 2009

The Lampasas Badgers defeated the Marble Falls Mustangs 31-27 in front of a big homecoming crowd.  It was a tale of two halves as the Badgers took a 24-7 lead into halftime.  However, the Mustsangs scored on all three of their second half possessions putting up 20 unanswered points to take a 27-24 lead with just over 4 minutes to play in the game.  On their last drive of the game, the Badgers marched 75 yards on 13 plays.  On fourth and goal, Brode Dubose scored a one yard touchdown to secure the win as time expired.

Edward Hall opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 52-yard scamper that put the Badgers ahead 7-0.  After the Mustangs tied the game, Brode Dubose broke a 35-yard run to give the Badgers a 14-7 lead.  Late in the second quarter, Edward Hall got loose again for a 66-yard touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in the half.  On the ensuing Mustang drive, Josh Woods picked off an errant Mustang pass to set up the Badgers at the Mustang 25 yard line.  Aaron Reyna then scampered to the the Mustangs 7 yard line on a reverse as time ran out.  However, a face mask penalty moved the ball to the 4.  Since a half cannot end on a defensive penalty, the Badgers received one untimed down.  Michael Shaugnessy connected on a 21-yard field goal to put the Badgers up 24-7 at halftime.

It was a great win for Badgers in a playoff atmosphere.  The Badgers are now 2-2 in District needing one more win for a shot at the playoffs.

The Lampasas Badgers travel to Leo Buckley Stadium this Thursday night to take on the Killeen Kangaroos.  This is another big game for the Badgers as they try to upset the Roos for their third straight district win.  Tune in at 6:20 PM for the Joey McQueen show with the game to follow at 7:00 PM.  Kenny Murray will not be able to attend the game so Darrell Brooks will bring you the play-by-play action.  A special guest analyst will be standing in for Kenny.  Tune in Thursday night to find out who it will be!
